The bees in Anolaima, Colombia

Anolaima is a small town located in the Colombian Andes that used to be called "The fruit capital of Colombia". Several bee species coexist with farmers in this territory. Farmers ara aware they share the land with angelitas –the docile stingless bees–, other people mentioned abejones or abejorros –bumble and carpenter bees– or mierda ‘e perro –feces eaters bees–, yet all people immediately mentioned the foreign –yet naturalized– honeybee (Apis mellifera). People are less aware of solitary bees.  While conducting bee surveys, we found ~60 morphospecies across the 16 farms we worked in, including several sweat bee species (~10), leaf/petal cutter species (~7), stingless bee species (>20), and apid-stinging bee species (>40) reside in Anolaima. They are all beautiful!
